Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa of Sunshine Stars has charged his Nigeria team mates to beat Burkina Faso convincingly on Saturday as a birthday present for him.
The Super Eagles face the Stallions at the Adokiye Amiesiamaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, in the first leg, final round qualifier for the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Ezenwa, who turned 27 on Friday, October 16, told Goal that he would be more than elated if his team mates could help thrash the Burkinabes on Saturday in Port Harcourt to render the second leg a mere formality.
“I want to appeal to my teammates to take
the match very seriously and win handsomely so as to give me a befitting birthday ceremony. I want us to take the game as very important because it won’t augur well if we fail to qualify for the next CHAN,” Ezenwa told Goal.
The former Heartland and Sharks goaltender enjoined his colleagues to approach the match with all seriousness right from the start to the end knowing fully well that there are no minnows again in the game adding that the defeat of the Dream Team VI at the All African Games by the same team was a testament to the fact that they must not be joked with.
Ezenwa told Goal that the training sessions and the determination and enthusiasm in camp showed that the Eagles are ready and poised to take the visitors to the cleaners.
Ezenwa’s impressive season has seen him named among the best five goalkeepers in the Nigerian league this NPFL season as his top drawer saves have helped ease pressure on the Kennedy Boboye-led Sunshine side.
